CHIS has data on ethnic and racial groups underrepresented in most other health surveys: Latinos (including Mexicans, Guatemalans and Puerto Ricans), African Americans, American Indians and Alaska Natives, and Asians (including Chinese, Filipinos, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, and South Asians).
CHIS is conducted in five languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese.
Where does CHIS interview?
CHIS telephone surveys are conducted in all 58 counties of California. CHIS may conduct over-sampling of specific urban areas, such as Los Angeles and San Diego.
